Results at the National Championship

Team 1824 made it to Atlanta for the 2007 FIRST Robotics Championship Event. In our division, we made 5th place (see the final standings). Barbara Miller, chairperson of the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, wrote after a breakfast at the Chamber:

We were treated to a demonstration of the robot built by the ConVal Robotics Team and entered into the FIRST Competition. The robot hung inflated colored inner tubes on pegs configured in rows and columns on a 10-foot-high structure. Teams earned their invitations to the FIRST National Championship by excelling in competitive play, sportsmanship, and the development of partnerships among schools, businesses, and communities.

ConVal (actually, the regional Applied Technology Center) won 5th place (out of 344) in the Archimedes Division of the national competition. Archimedes, one of the world's greatest mathematicians, said in 287 B.C. that “there are things which seem incredible to most men, but not to those who have studied math and science.” These bright young people who study math and science and who exhibited the excitement and wonders of technology were inspirational. Congratulations to the teachers and students alike.
